Karen has the ability of wildly bearing her heart on her sleeve no matter the circumstances, no matter how many times it's bruised and made to forgive. She's compelled with loyalty, a devil-may-care attitude and an unrelenting pang in her chest to ensure everyone's truth is told, whether it's in means of a midnight-poured expose or an interview that she readily nestles herself into harm's way to achieve.

As a woman, paralegal, and journalist on the streets of Hell's Kitchen and a tough past, she's learned to hold her own despite the self-painted target on her back from nosing further than she should, dismissing warnings and worries to stay out of the various wars the city hosts without relent. The city feeds her passion for stories and justice and gives her something to eclipse herself into so she isn't left with the company of her own bone-bared guilt and un-grieved graves.

* Karen is not entirely privy to the idea of being controlled or titled. When she'd first woken up in Duplicity she never gave herself the opportunity to find any sort of comfort anywhere — or within anyone — because she was too preoccupied with researching the system with a 'burn it all down' attitude. Her designation was another factor that added to her resistance, given she's used to being the one looking out for others, taking others in, and as a submissive she's forced to reconcile with the idea that she 'needs' a dominant in order to contractually remain comfortable within the city. Coming to the city again, she certainly wouldn't be laissez-faire to the idea of contracting, but she'll be much more mild mannered and consider all of her angles for opportunity, including participating where she can morally oblige. (And, god forbid, actually allow herself a little pleasure.)

TRAIT HIGHLIGHTS.
 

✎ (+) Passionate. While it can easily be translated into every one of her negatives, what fuels Karen's success and drive—and very much just her as a person—just as much as her terrors is her relentlessness. She has a passion for protecting others, including their story, and giving a voice to the people of the city that are so easily snuffed out by corporations, the wealth of the burroughs, those who can afford to buy their way out of exposure or the justice system turning a blind eye. Regardless of the size or prestige of her targets, she'll face them with equal tenacity, she'll protect strangers at a moments notice, and she's definitely one to 'stick it to the books' and just generally do right by others. She is ever-feeling, and with the guilt and grief she carries day in and day out, she only really lets herself bleed through writing, almost as if righting another's wrongs could somehow take back her own.

✎ (-) Reckless. Karen will mouth off at the barrel of a gun. She will call out defendants on trial and without so much as a single thought to the danger it might cause herself put to public light the often unwanted and hidden truth so many people within the city desperately keep covered. If anyone, she will be the one to ensure exposure and justice greets those who have it coming, and extends a maternal (definite mom-friend) and (god, someone get her a plaque) loyal hand to those who have been dealt slander by the media. She puts herself into harms way because she neglects to consider her own wellbeing and safety—it's an afterthought. She has only mild knowledge of self-defense which makes her naive at best with the company she draws and attracts, but in this case Karen is a case of 'the pen is mightier than the sword.'

✎ (-) Stubborn. There's honestly no telling the amount of times Karen has been told to keep her head down, but she's almost childlike in the sense that when she's told to stay away from something, the sentiment is telling enough to know that there's something there worth discovering, regardless of the risk. She'll meet her sources on the riversides in the city in the middle of the night and invite herself to the very doorstep of one of the most powerful druglords of the city just to let them know she sees them. Once someone has been wronged, she will see it through that their truth written everywhere for the city to read. Strangely, she isn't as concerned with her own and often represses a lot of her 'truths', which may be largely why she's so driven to ensure no one else struggles to make themselves heard.

✎ (-) Defensive. The tumultuous relationship she's had with herself and her family since leaving Vermont has made her defensive, unnervingly at times. She eventually purchases a pistol as a means of self-protection. She doesn't bode well with those who believe everything they hear or everything that the media blares or who are complacent with ignoring their surroundings. While it's not endearing or something she might readily be able to recognize, she takes the smallest slights quite personally and allows them to fester. She's put an incredible amount of might behind her name as a journalist, but it's a double-sided knife— she has the opportunity to be heard, but every print just puts her front and center before the vile of the city she calls out, who seem to characteristically be greed-ridden men.

Powers and Abilities: HEART. She is all heart. Karen is unparalleled in disarming others in pretty much all senses—physically, mentally, emotionally, and she carries a sort of compassionate charm. (Honestly I think it should be notable her ability to naturally make even the toughest, defense-hackled men like Frank Castle (a renowned marine war hero written into a psychotic killer by the hand of the media) feel both comfortable and assured that she is someone he can trust.) She holds no out of the ordinary skills but excels in journalism, her inquisitive nature and resilience.
